
A
large crowd gathered to remember Ivan Madray, a cricketer from Port Mourant,
Berbice, Guyana, whose first-class career consisted of only six matches and was
over by the time he was 24, but his dream lives on in the hearts of men and
women who turned out at the Albion Cricket ground, to celebrate his historic
contribution to cricket in Berbice.
At
the finals of the Ivan Madray Memorial
100-ball, it was announced, another Berbican Shimron Hetmyer, who has been
making a name for himself on the international stage, is giving back by
sponsoring a Tournament called the Shimron
Hetmyer Intermediate Cricket Tournament. This announcement was made by
Hilbert Foster who is the president of the Berbice Cricket Board.
In
a meeting with foster Hetmyer agreed to sponsor the Intermediate Tournament,
which would seek to give opportunity to all Berbice players and teams. Teams
such as Albion Community Centre, Rose Hall Town Bakewell, and Young Warriors,
and Rose Hall Canje, players such as Hetmyer, Veerasammy Permaul, Romario
Shepherd, Devendra Bishoo, and Assad Fudadin are some clubs and names expected
to participate.
Foster
said the BCB has big plans and was commended for doing a good job, by Shimron Hetmyer,
who is the 18th player from Berbice to play Test cricket. The crowd that
gathered were all applause that he was giving back to the community and people
that pushed and supported him from day one.
