Science and Agriculture

Science and Agriculture

Pumpkin Grown without fertilizer
Science has come a long way especially in the area of Agriculture, from digging the earth with sticks to using bulls and fork, to plowing with tractors, despite every era has had persons and industries that have hold on to pass modern ways of doing agricultural activities, the majority of individuals and company have been moving a pace with new inventions in the arena of science but science has had its good and its bad to agriculture, science has developed mature usefulness and harmfulness.

One of the inventions that science has developed, is fertilizer, which aids in the growth, the maturity of the plant and adds to the soil basic nutrients that it might be lacking according International Fertilizer Association Legal notice published in 2016 on WWW. Fertilizer .org,   this was especially necessary since the earth over the years has been losing its nutrients and potency of which I have experienced being a farmer and also stated by ML2R consultancy forum 28/03/16.

What is lacking though is the consideration on when these chemicals are being applied to the crop or soil, fertilizers applied a 24hrs before reaping the crop can have adverse effects on the consumers, health wise, and economically as well. I have experienced as a farmer of my little kitchen garden that when fertilizer is applied to a plant it blooms and the fruit is bigger and seems more healthy but my experience as a consumer teaches that the produce is not enduring and what would last for two days had fertilizer not been applied to it, is now lasting only for a day, which creates a situation for me to go reap again or purchase again.

On weebly.com group four answered the question on how fertilizer affects the body and they stated “Heavy metals such as Mercury, Lead, Cadmium and Uranium have been found in fertilizers, which can cause disturbances in the kidneys, lungs and liver and cause cancer” , humans have suffer historically from all theses diseases, though statistics does not show how much have died from these illnesses being directly related to fertilizer, it is practical to think that if one is exposed to food that is filled with chemicals that have these components in them then there is all likely cause that, that chemical could have had an effect on the individuals health or would have contributed in some way or the other.

Science can be very helpful but those who opt to use science in any way, especially in agricultural activities need to give attention to the after effects as against the present benefits they can enjoy, this scientific invention called fertilizer can either be harmful or useful depends on its application.
